First Look at ‚I’m in Love with the Villainess‘ Anime with Additional Cast Members Announced

On Friday, the official website of the television anime adaptation of Inori’s light novel series, „I’m in Love with the Villainess“ (Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijō), shared exciting updates on the upcoming show. These include the anime’s first promotional video, a new cast reveal, a key visual, and a confirmed release month of October.

Joining the cast of the show are four new members: Aimi as Misha Jur, Ikumi Hasegawa as Lene Aurousseau, Sara Matsumoto as Loretta Kugret, and Minami Kurisaka as Pipi Barlier. The previously announced leads are
Yū Serizawa as Rae Taylor and Karin Nanami as Claire Francois.

Platinum Vision has tapped Hideaki Oba (Love of Kill) to direct the anime, while Ayumu Hisao (Love of Kill, Devils‘ Line) is writing and overseeing the series scripts. Youko Satou (7SEEDS, Saiyuki Reload Blast) is responsible for adapting AONOSHIMO and Hanagata’s character designs for animation. The sound direction is handled by Hajime Takakuwa, while Noriyuki Asakura and Usagi to Uma are composing the music.

According to Seven Seas Entertainment, the English publisher of the light novels, the story of „I’m in Love with the Villainess“ follows Oohashi Rei, an ordinary office worker who finds herself waking up as the protagonist of her favorite otome game, Revolution. She is ecstatic to find that her favorite character, Claire Francois, is the first person to greet her. However, instead of pursuing the game’s male leads, Rei sets her sights on romancing Claire, the main antagonist of the story. How will Claire react to this unexpected twist?

The series first launched on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in January 2018, with GL Bunko releasing the story as digital volumes starting in February 2019. The fifth and final volume was published in August 2021, with Hanagata handling the illustrations. A manga adaptation by AONOSHIMO launched in Ichijinsha’s Comic Yuri Hime magazine in June 2020, and Seven Seas Entertainment is also publishing the manga in English.

Additionally, Inori penned a spinoff story titled „Heimin no Kuse ni Namaikina!“ on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in May 2021 and concluded it in October 2021. GL Bunko released the story as a digital novel volume in February 2022, and Seven Seas Entertainment published it as „I’m in Love with the Villainess Spin-Off: She’s so Cheeky for a Commoner.“
