The anime is an adaptation of Satoru Nii’s Wind Breaker, which first appeared in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket in 2021. As of August 2023, the manga has been compiled into 13 volumes. The series had garnered significant attention at AnimeJapan 2022, with many fans eager for an anime adaptation.

Fans in North America can also anticipate print copies of Wind Breaker to be released by the manga’s North American licensor, Kodansha USA, this fall.
Kodansha USA publishes the manga in English and describes it:
“Haruka Sakura wants nothing to do with weaklings—he’s only interested in the strongest of the strong. He’s just started at Furin High School, a school of degenerates known only for their brawling strength—strength they use to protect their town from anyone who wishes it ill. But Haruka’s not interested in being a hero or being part of any sort of team—he just wants to fight his way to the top!”
A key visual was also released for the anime:
