Who is Zeke Yeager?
Zeke Yeager is a significant character in the anime show “Attack on Titan: The Final Season”. He is the son of Grisha Yeager and Dina Fritz and the older half-brother of Eren Yeager. Zeke is also a former Warrior of Marley who betrayed his nation and joined forces with Paradis Island to save Eldia.
Zeke Yeager in Attack on Titan
Zeke’s character is introduced in the show as a cold and ruthless warrior. He is known for his exceptional abilities as the Beast Titan which he inherited from his predecessor Tom Ksaver. Zeke has the ability to transform into a giant ape-like creature with immense strength and the power to throw objects with great accuracy. This skill earned him the title of Warchief making him one of the highest-ranking members of the Marleyan military.
Despite his initial loyalty to Marley, Zeke’s true allegiance lies with Eldia the nation he was born into as a descendant of the royal Fritz family. He joined forces with Paradis Island after realizing the true nature of Marley’s intentions towards Eldians. He understood that Marley had been using Eldians as weapons of war and that they were planning to eradicate the Eldian race altogether.
Zeke’s plan to save Eldia involves using the Founding Titan’s power to sterilize all Eldians thus ending their suffering and bringing about the end of the Titan curse. This plan is met with opposition from Eren Yeager who is opposed to the idea of sacrificing their race for the sake of peace. Eren’s rejection of Zeke’s plan leads to a confrontation between the two brothers and it becomes clear that they have fundamentally different ideas about what it means to save Eldia.
Zeke Yeagers character
Zeke’s character arc in the final season of “Attack on Titan” is focused on exploring his motivations and the events that led him to betray Marley. The show delves into his troubled childhood where he witnessed the atrocities committed against Eldians firsthand. His father Grisha who was also an Eldian restorationist was imprisoned and tortured by Marley leaving a lasting impact on Zeke’s psyche.
This traumatic experience led Zeke to develop a deep-seated hatred for his own race as he believed that Eldians were cursed and needed to be eradicated. He saw Marley’s plan to use Titans as a means to achieve this goal and initially believed that joining them as a warrior was the only way to save Eldia. However his experiences as a Warrior of Marle, combined with his growing relationship with Xavier, an Eldian who had infiltrated Marley’s military, led him to question his beliefs and ultimately betray his nation.
Zeke’s character is complex and multifaceted and his motivations are not always clear. He is a tragic figure who has suffered greatly due to the actions of others and his desire to end the cycle of violence and suffering that has plagued Eldia for centuries is commendable. However, his plan to sterilize all Eldians while well-intentioned raises ethical questions about the value of sacrifice and the consequences of playing God.
Overall, Zeke Yeager is a compelling character whose journey is an essential part of the final season of “Attack on Titan”. His relationships with other characters, especially his brother Eren, are fraught with tension and conflict and his actions have far-reaching consequences for the fate of Eldia. He is a tragic figure who seeks to save his people but his methods and motivations are complex and controversial.
