Spice and Wolf Anime Confirms April 2024 Release Date

The inaugural Spice and Wolf anime, crafted by studio Imagin, graced the Winter 2008 anime season with a 12-episode saga. Following its success, an OVA enchanted audiences in May of the same year, with a second OVA debut in May 2009. The sequel, comprising 12 episodes, unfolded in the Summer anime season of that very year, animated by the collaborative talents of studios Marvy Jack and Brain’s Base. The overarching theme for the preceding month was centered around the tranquil practice of moon viewing.

Spice and Wolf draws its essence from a Japanese light novel series, a literary masterpiece penned by Isuna Hasekura and adorned with the artistic brilliance of Jyuu Ayakura. ASCII Media Works ushered this enchanting narrative into the world, nurturing it from 2006 to 2019 across a remarkable 22 volumes. Keito Koume lent visual life to the series through a manga adaptation that graced readers from September 2007 to December 2017. Currently, fans are treated to an ongoing sequel novel titled Wolf and Parchment, a collaborative creation of Hasekura’s narrative prowess and Hidori’s illustrative talent. Yen Press, ever vigilant, secured the rights to both the original series and its sequel.

Yen Press licensed both the original series and the sequel, and the publisher describes the plot of Spice and Wolf as:

The life of a traveling merchant is a lonely one, a fact with which Kraft Lawrence is well acquainted. Wandering from town to town with just his horse, cart, and whatever wares have come his way, the peddler has pretty well settled into his routine-that is, until the night Lawrence finds a wolf goddess asleep in his cart. Taking the form of a fetching girl with wolf ears and a tail, Holo has wearied of tending to harvests in the countryside and strikes up a bargain with the merchant to lend him the cunning of “Holo the Wisewolf” to increase his profits in exchange for taking her along on his travels. What kind of businessman could turn down such an offer? Lawrence soon learns, though, that having an ancient goddess as a traveling companion can be a bit of a mixed blessing. Will this wolf girl turn out to be too wild to tame?
