New My Hero Academia Movie: "You're Next" Set to Release on August 2nd, 2024

On Monday, January 29, 2024, the official website and X (formerly Twitter) account of the fourth My Hero Academia film in the anime franchise released a new promotional video. The trailer, approximately 60 seconds in duration, unveiled the film’s premiere date, key visual, and title: “My Hero Academia: You’re Next.”

Commencing with scenes depicting All Might’s triumph over All For One at Kamino earlier in the series, the trailer includes the iconic “you’re next” line uttered by All Might. An individual, seemingly interpreting this message personally, is shown watching from home.

Scheduled for an early August 2024 release in Japanese theaters, the film has disclosed its key staff. Furthermore, it was announced that Kohei Horikoshi, the original series creator, author, and illustrator, will play a significant role in the film, serving as both the general supervisor and original character designer.

My Hero Academia Movie: You're Next Set around in the same time as the anime

The latest batch of information for the new My Hero Academia film did not disclose a crucial element – its cast. While it is anticipated that the voice actors from the mainline television anime series will reprise their roles, the identity of the film’s villain and their voice actor remains unknown. However, it is expected that this information will be unveiled in the weeks and months leading up to the film’s premiere.

The key visual for the film showcases protagonist Izuku “Deku” Midoriya and his friends Katsuki Bakugo, Tenya Iida, Shoto Todoroki, and Ochaco Uraraka engaged in a battle against what seems to be All Might. However, it is more likely that this character is the film’s villain, especially considering the teaser of him emulating All Might’s appearance, including his distinctive hairstyle in the trailer’s concluding moments.

Tensai Okamura is directing the film at BONES studios, with scriptwriter Yosuke Kuroda, character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi, and composer Yuki Hayashi returning from the mainline television anime series and previous films. Kohei Horikoshi is serving as the general supervisor and original character designer for the film.

“You’re Next” is expected to feature an original story set around the same time as the current television anime, depicting the collapse of hero society. The film introduces a mysterious giant fortress and a man resembling the former “Symbol of Peace” in a society disrupted by war.

This upcoming My Hero Academia film, the fourth in the franchise, follows the releases of “World Heroes’ Mission” in August 2021, “Heroes Rising” in December 2019, and the inaugural film “Two Heroes” in July 2018.
