On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, the official website for the upcoming second season of the anime series “Girlfriend, Girlfriend” unveiled a promotional video containing crucial details. Enthusiastic fans received information about the series’ scheduled release in October 2023, the artists responsible for the theme songs, and the songs they will perform.
“Girlfriend, Girlfriend” season 2 carries on the adaptation of Hiroyuki’s original manga of the same title, which has enjoyed considerable success. While the second season of the series will introduce a fresh animation studio and new staff members, some familiar faces from the first season will make a return.
The initial season of this television anime series debuted in July 2021 and was made available for international streaming on Crunchyroll simultaneous to its Japanese broadcast. Given that “Girlfriend, Girlfriend” season 2 is set to air well over a year after the premiere of its predecessor, it’s evident that fans are eagerly anticipating the continuation of the story.
As previously mentioned, “Girlfriend, Girlfriend” season 2 is scheduled to make its debut on Japanese television on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 2:23 am Japanese Standard Time. You can catch it on MBS, TBS, and BS-TBS. For international fans, Crunchyroll will stream the anime, typically with a brief delay, as is customary for simulcast series.
There will be some familiar faces among the returning staff members from the first season. Keiichiro Ochi, in collaboration with Kazuhiko Inukai, is back to oversee the scripts. Shouko Hagiwara will continue to design the characters, while Kanade Sakuma, Tatsuhiko Saiki, Miki Sakurai, and Junko Nakajima will be crafting the music. Nichion will handle the music production with cooperation from Myrica Music.
Taking the helm as the new director for the series at Synergy SP Studios is Takatoshi Suzuki. Masakazu Miyake will serve as the art director, and Haruko Seto will handle color design. Noriko Wada will direct photography, with Yumiko Nakaba in charge of editing. Satoshi Motoyama is returning as the sound director at HALF H·P STUDIO.
The series will feature a talented cast, with Junya Enoki voicing Naoya Mukai, Ayane Sakura as Saki Saki, Azumi Waki as Nagisa Minase, Ayana Taketatsu as Rika Hoshizaki, and Rie Takahashi as Shino Kiryu. Aoi Koga will lend her voice to Risa Hoshizaki in the series.
As for the music, the opening theme song for “Girlfriend, Girlfriend” season 2 will be “Dramatic ni Koi Shitai” (I Want to Fall in Love Dramatically) by Hikari Codama, while the ending theme will be “Forira” by ClariS.
Kodansha USA Publishing releases the original manga digitally in English and describes it as follows:
